Went to my first hearing at a Metropolitan Trial Court. My tito laughed and said "It's not like Boston Legal" but my legal drama/dramedy of choice is not that so I said "Yes it's not The Practice" instead.
Although in some parts it was. I listened in on some arraignments (?) and the judge made me LOL. And then there was the cute young lawyer who represented at least one of the criminals, and was appointed to also represent the lady whose lawyer didn't show up. They could make a show about him. Can Gerald Anderson act lawyerly?

Though I love using a cutter and cutting board, that doesn't mean I can cut a straight line even with a ruler. When you get your invite, know that I was up 'til late and I cut that crooked label with love. :)

| The Bookers are my prize |
[09 Dec 2009|10:57am] |
Just finished 2008 Booker Prize winner The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga. It's India like Slumdog Millionaire, which is probably why it got flak locally. But it's quirky, and grimy, and brought me to that place I go to when I watch Dexter.
I'm so relieved that I liked it, because I decided to pay regular price for it (P299 at National), and I rarely do that. But maybe I shouldn't have been surprised. So far, the Bookers and I are chika friends.
Other Bookers I like: 2006 Winner - The Inheritance of Loss by Kiran Desai 2005 Shortlist - Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro (once I got over how it was essentially that Michael Bay movie but a drama) 2002 Winner - Life of Pi by Yann Martel (yeah!) 2001 Shortlist - Atonement by Ian McEwan 2000 Shortlist - When We Were Orphans by Kazuo Ishiguro 1997 Winner - The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy 1992 Winner - The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje
Even the ones I read that I don't really like, I don't hate naman.
And now I am reading Every Girl's Guide to Boys by Marla Miniano, and am reminded once again that I am so out of touch. There's a line there about remembering a boy "every time I hear Rilo Kiley" and I don't even know what that means. :( I have to look it up.

Biggest Loser Asia Could be compelling, and the contestants are articulate naman. However I must correct Red Team Trainer: she said in an interview that they had to make the food "bland" for the Pinoys... NO, we don't want the food bland. We just don't want it "burn your tastebuds off" spicy. We also have a culture of many condiments so we like salty things to be salty, sour to be sour, sweet to be sweet, and so on.
Parks and Recreation Yeah, the show did find its voice eventually, good for them. I think for me it was when they revealed the thing about Tom's wife, and I actually felt sad for him.
White Collar Finale = WTF? I hope this is a Hustle-like switch because I don't know how enjoyable the show will be for me if not.
Top Chef Brian is cute.
Law and Order: SVU WHY Wentworth why. Not the best move to make after singlehandedly keeping a bad TV show on the air with your "staring into the middle distance" face. Maybe go with something more tongue-in-cheek, like Castle?
